Travertine Care & Maintenance Products
Travertine is a natural stone that is very identifiable to anyone that has seen it. It is normally a variation of tan in color and has very distinguishable visual characteristics. Although it is related to marble and limestone in the sense that it shares some of the minerals that composed marble and limestone, it is a different rock.
Travertine has very identifiable traits that make it stand out from its counterparts. These characteristics occur due to the process under which travertine is formed. It forms in areas of heat and water like underground caves and in hot springs. One of the main characteristics of travertine is the numerous holes that appear visibly in this beautiful natural stone.
Caring for travertine is a lot like caring for marble. Both natural stones contain calcium carbonate. This means that they share some of the same properties. Yet, travertine has features beyond those of marble or limestone. One characteristic is the distinctive pits and holes that are commonly found in the natural stone as we previously mentioned. These holes are sometimes filled and smoothed before the stone reaches the home. However, it is possible that filled spots in travertine can open back up ever so slightly. Also, some travertine that is available has not yet been filled.
This product list contains, not only the care products that you might use on limestone and marble, but also the travertine specific products such as travetine filler that you can use to correct pits or holes that open back up after installation.
